Some studies found DollyParton’s Imagination Library had promise with respect to developing children’s early literacy skills, as participants had more advanced skills than their classmates who did not participate in the program. DollyParton and the Imagination Library have received numerous awards for inspiring a love for reading among children everywhere, including the Library of Congress Literacy Award. · Survey responses from participating libraries indicate that participation in the Imagination Library program has resulted in boosts across several metrics, including program attendance, circulation of youth-focused materials, and community support through monetary and in-kind donations. · In her inductive analysis, Stone discovered three themes: reading to succeed; living the American dream; and perfecting parenting. She says that these reflect the idea that everybody can grow up and live the American dream if they follow the standard path. · “ The Library that Dolly Built ” chronicles how Parton, the child of impoverished parents (her father was illiterate) in rural Tennessee, built an international program that has given away more than 150 million books to young children since its 1995 inception. · We look back on the history of DollyParton’s Imagination Library and what inspired the groundbreaking early literacy program. Have Imagination Library books comprised at least half of their home libraries. The results from this survey continually demonstrate the importance of The Literacy Cooperative and participation in DPIL for all families, but even more so for those with lower incomes.
